What can drive them
These are examples of the hardware used for each connection type. Match the exact model and generation, then check the setup notes below. Zigbee motor compatibility also depends on the motor firmware and hub software.

Echo Show 10 (3rd generation)Zigbee and Matter over Thread
Echo Studio (1st or 2nd generation)Zigbee and Matter over Thread
HomePod (2nd generation)Matter over Thread

Smart-home setup, by platform
The lists below are hardware examples, not a guarantee that every motor feature works on every platform. Matter over Thread needs a Matter controller and a Thread border router; many hubs provide both. For Zigbee, confirm support for the AOK motor before buying a hub.
Amazon Alexa
Echo (4th gen)
Echo Plus (2nd gen)
Echo Studio (1st or 2nd gen)
Echo Show 10 (3rd gen)
Echo Show 8 (3rd gen or 2025 model)
Echo Hub
Echo Show 15 (2nd gen)
Echo Show 21
Echo Dot Max (2025)
Echo Show 11 (2025)
Echo (4th gen)
Echo Plus (2nd gen)
Echo Studio (1st or 2nd gen)
Echo Hub
Echo Show 8 (3rd gen or 2025 model)
Echo Show 10 (3rd gen)
Echo Show 15 (2nd gen)
Echo Show 21
Echo Dot Max (2025)
Echo Show 11 (2025)
Supported eero models include 6, 6+, Pro 6, Pro 6E, Max 7, 7 and Pro 7
A built-in Zigbee hub does not guarantee support for every AOK firmware version or voice command. Ask us to confirm your combination. Many other Echo models can act as Matter controllers with a separate compatible Thread border router. With eero, enable Thread and complete the Alexa/Amazon account setup; not every eero model supports Thread.
Apple Home
HomePod (2nd gen)
Apple TV 4K (2nd gen)
Apple TV 4K (3rd gen), the 128 GB Wi-Fi and Ethernet model
HomePod (1st gen), Apple TV 4K (1st gen), and Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 64 GB) do not provide a Thread border router. A supported Apple home hub can be used with a compatible third-party border router. Some Thread-enabled iPhones support local control with compatible motor firmware; a home hub remains the recommended setup for automations and control away from home.
Google Home
Nest Hub Max
Nest Wifi Pro
Google TV Streamer (4K)
Google Home Speaker (2026)
These Google hubs provide Matter control and Thread border routing. Nest Hub (1st gen), Nest Mini and Nest Audio do not provide the Thread border router needed by themselves. Use the Google Home app for setup.
Samsung SmartThings
SmartThings Hub V3 (2018) / Aeotec Smart Home Hub
SmartThings Station
Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 (V4)
Legacy Zigbee hardware: Samsung Connect Home and SmartThings Wifi; confirm current software and motor-driver support before relying on these
SmartThings Station
Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 (V4)
SmartThings Hub V2 (2015), with a separate compatible Thread border router
Update your hub and SmartThings app. Zigbee needs a driver matched to the motor device identifier; a generic or community driver is not a guarantee. Contact us to confirm the motor and driver combination before ordering.
Hubitat
The hub has no built-in Thread border router. Examples you can add are HomePod mini or Nest Hub (2nd gen). Update Hubitat before setup; Matter support requires platform 2.3.8+ on C-5/C-7 or 2.3.7+ on C-8/C-8 Pro.
Homey
Homey Pro (2023 or 2026)
A Homey app must also support your exact Zigbee motor.
Homey Pro (2023 or 2026)
Homey Self-Hosted Server with a separate Thread border router
Homey Pro and Pro mini include Thread hardware. Matter window coverings use built-in Matter support. Pairing requirements vary by phone and Homey model; follow the current Homey setup instructions.
Home Assistant
Zigbee2MQTT lists an A-OK AM25 variant under Tuya TS0601_cover_1, but the actual device identifier must match. The recommended Matter setup is Home Assistant OS. Thread hardware alone does not replace Matter Server.
Zigbee or Matter? A Zigbee motor pairs to a compatible Zigbee hub. A Matter-over-Thread motor uses a Matter controller and a Thread border router, which may be built into the same device. A standard Wi-Fi router or smart speaker is not automatically a substitute. Use the exact models above and keep your hub and app updated.
Basic remote control does not require a smart-home hub. Remote selection and available motor options depend on your shade. For help matching a motor to your home, contact Coverly.
