Motorized shades are the upgrade people regret not buying sooner. A motor removes the chain from the window, which matters most on the openings you can't comfortably reach, like stairwell windows, tall living-room glass, or anything behind a sofa, and on the ones you operate twice a day, every day. This page collects every shade and blind we build with a motor option, which is all of them: roller, cellular, roman, woven wood, zebra, and solar.
Battery, solar, or plug-in
Three ways to power a motorized blind, and the right one is usually decided by the window, not the budget. Battery motors carry a built-in rechargeable lithium pack and install with no wiring at all; you take the shade down or bring a charger to it every so often. Solar adds a small panel that keeps that same battery topped up, and it is the honest answer for a high window you don't want to take down twice a year. Plug-in motors run on 100 to 240 V with a cable to a nearby outlet and never need charging, which suits a bank of windows in one room where an outlet is already there.
Whichever you choose: charge a lithium motor for at least six hours every six months even if the shade is barely used. It preserves the pack.
Smart home, without the guesswork
Our motors come in three radio flavors and the difference is worth understanding before you order. The standard RF433 motor works with our remotes out of the box and reaches Alexa or Google Home through a hub. The Zigbee motor connects directly, with no hub, to five specific Alexa devices: Echo Plus (2nd Gen), Echo Studio, Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen), Echo Show (2nd Gen), and Echo Show (4th Gen). Any other Alexa device still needs a hub. The Matter motor connects directly to Apple HomePod and HomeKit, and also reaches Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, and Home Assistant.
The practical rule: Matter if you are on Apple, Zigbee if you are on Alexa with one of those five Echo devices, RF433 plus a hub for everything else. Every motor holds six electronic limits, two ends plus four intermediate positions, so a favorite half-open setting is a single button press.
Motorized needs more width than manual
This is the specification that catches people out. On our roller systems a motor lives inside the tube, so the shade needs roughly 8 to 10 inches more minimum width than the same shade built manual. A manual roller starts around 11¾" wide; the motorized version of the same cassette starts around 20½". If you are motorizing a narrow window, whether a bathroom slot, a sidelight, or a stairwell porthole, check the minimum before you fall in love with the idea.
At the other end, most roller and woven wood systems stop at 96" wide, and wider openings take multiple shades on one continuous headrail up to 118" total. Motorized cellular is limited by height rather than width: on the larger cells a motor caps at 79" high, where a bead chain reaches far higher. Tall window plus motor is the combination to check first.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
