Collection: Solar Shades

Solar shades that cut glare and keep the view

A solar shade is a roller shade woven from an open screen fabric. It blocks heat and glare while you go on seeing through it, which is the whole point. Where a blackout shade solves a dark bedroom, a solar shade solves a hot west facing living room, a glare washed television, or a home office where the afternoon sun lands on the monitor at three o clock every day.

Openness is the number that matters. A tighter weave blocks more sun and gives more daytime privacy but dims the view. A more open weave keeps the view sharp and lets more light and heat through. Darker screen colors cut glare and read through more clearly from the inside, while lighter colors bounce more heat back out at the glass. Order samples and hold them up in the afternoon before you decide.
