A roman shade gives a window the soft, tailored look of fabric folds, but the traditional version hangs its lift cords down the side of the window. They tangle, end up at uneven lengths, and sit at exactly the height a toddler or a cat can reach. Cordless roman shades and blinds keep the folds and lose the cords. There are no hanging lift chains or loops at the sill, so the window looks cleaner and the shade is safer in a home with children or pets. Here is every Coverly roman style you can order cordless.
Which cordless roman shades and blinds to choose
Light filtering roman shades are the everyday choice for living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens. The fabric softens daylight and gives you privacy during the day while the room stays bright.
Blackout roman shades use a fully opaque fabric, so they belong in bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms. Choosing cordless here matters most in a child's room, where the shade is lowered and raised every day and a loose cord is the last thing you want near a crib.
Woven wood shades are the natural option, woven from bamboo, jute and other plant fibers. All three fold styles are available cordless: waterfall, where the fabric flows from the front of the headrail in a smooth face; flat fold, which hangs in a crisp flat plane; and hobbled, with soft cascading folds. Without a liner a woven shade is roughly half see-through. Add a light filtering liner for daytime privacy, or a blackout liner to make it fully blackout. Natural fibers are not suited to bathrooms or other humid rooms, so choose a fabric roman there instead.
A simple design rule helps: flat fold reads modern and quiet, hobbled reads traditional and full, and waterfall sits in between.
Sizes and limits for cordless roman shades
A cordless system is balanced against the weight of the shade, so it has its own size range. For woven wood, a cordless shade can be made from 19 3/4 inches to 96 inches wide and from 18 inches up to 106 inches high. If your window is taller than 106 inches, our clutch and motorized woven wood systems reach 118 inches of drop. If it is wider than 96 inches, you can put two or more shades on one headrail up to 118 inches in total, and with cordless each shade on that headrail operates on its own.
The cordless woven wood headrail is 1 5/8 inches deep. An inside mount needs at least 1 5/8 inches of window depth, and about 2 1/8 inches if you want the shade to sit flush with the frame. Shallower than that, mount it on the wall or trim above the window instead.
Fabric roman shades are built on a squared cassette with a matching valance that clicks onto its mounting brackets, so the hardware is covered and the top of the window looks finished.
Measuring and installing it yourself
For an inside mount, measure the width of the opening at the top, center and bottom, and use the smallest number rounded down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Measure the height on both sides and use the smaller one. Measure the depth of the frame too. Send us your exact measurements and do not take anything off yourself; the factory applies the width deduction for a woven wood shade.
Fabric roman shades go up on two brackets. Drill with a 6 mm (0.2 inch) bit and screw each bracket in through at least two of its four pre-drilled holes on opposite sides. Use the anchor type that matches your wall, since both drywall and masonry anchors are included. Hook the groove at the top of the valance onto the bracket latch and press it back until it clicks, then check that the top and the rear are both locked before you let go.
Every cordless roman shade on this page is made to the measurements you send and shipped direct to your door, ready to hang in an afternoon. Order a sample first if you are choosing between fabric and a natural weave.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
