A large window is often what makes a room feel bright and open, and it is also the one window everyone notices. Glare lands on the sofa or the television, neighbors can see straight in at night, and whatever covers it sets the look of the whole wall. Faux wood blinds are a practical answer for big glass. The horizontal slats tilt to send daylight up toward the ceiling or close for privacy, the lift is cordless, and a painted finish keeps a wide stretch of window looking crisp against white trim. This page collects our made-to-measure faux wood blinds for large windows, with wood blinds and two fabric shades for comparison.
Faux wood, wood and fabric options
Faux wood blinds lead this page. They give a large window a tidy, tailored look, with the slats lined up across the glass and a valance across the top. Choose a white or soft neutral finish to blend with painted trim, or one of the textured wood-look finishes when you want warmth without real wood.
Wood blinds are the alternative when you want real grain on a big window, so the blinds tie in with wood floors, beams or furniture in the same room.
Light filtering cellular shades suit a large window when one continuous piece of fabric matters more than slats. They soften daylight evenly across the whole width and stack compactly at the top.
Light filtering roller shades give the most minimal line, one flat panel that rolls into a cassette, which suits modern rooms with large, simple glass.
A few design notes. If the large window is divided by mullions, consider one blind per section, lined up with the frame, so each section can be raised on its own and the slats meet the frame lines neatly. Use the same slat size and finish on every window in the room. On a very wide wall of glass, a light finish keeps the room bright when the blinds are down; a darker stain frames the view when they are up.
What limits a large window
Width is usually the deciding number. Size limits and configuration options for faux wood and wood blinds are shown on each product page as you build the blind, so check your widest and tallest measurements there before you order.
For the fabric options, our 38 mm cellular shades with a bead chain reach 197 inches wide and 157 inches high in a single shade, the widest single shade on this page. Cordless cellular shades stop at 94 inches wide and 94 inches high, and motorized cellular shades reach 126 inches wide but only 79 inches high. Light filtering roller shades on our squared cassette reach 98 3/8 inches wide, and any roller over 100 inches high moves to a larger tube and cassette. When a fabric is milled on a roll narrower than the system, the fabric sets the maximum width.
If your window is wider than a single covering can reach, split it at a mullion or a natural break in the glass and use two matching pieces.
Measuring and installing them yourself
Decide first whether the covering will sit inside the window frame or on the wall above it. An outside mount can make a large window look even bigger and covers the trim. For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and the height on both sides, write down every number, and send us the exact opening rather than taking anything off yourself. On a large window it is worth measuring twice.
Roller shades mount on a cassette bracket. Screw each bracket through at least two of its four pre-drilled holes on opposite sides, and use the two extra holes on a wide or heavy shade. Hook the valance onto the bracket latch, press it back until it clicks, and check that both the top and the rear are locked before you let go.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
