Mobile Home Shades & Blinds

Mobile and manufactured homes rarely have windows in the sizes that stock blinds are made for. Being a few inches off in width or height leaves a strip of light down one side, or a blind that will not sit inside the frame at all, and replacing the blinds a home came with is a common first project for new owners. Every shade on this page is made to your measurements, so the size you order is the size of your window, whatever it happens to be.

Shades and blinds that suit a mobile home

Cellular shades are a good fit for most rooms. Light filtering cellular softens daylight in living areas and kitchens, and blackout cellular closes a bedroom off for sleep. Both can be ordered cordless, which leaves no loose cords hanging at the window. Cellular is also the line where we offer a no-drill mount as an add-on, which helps if you would rather not put screws into a thin wall panel or window trim.

Roller shades are the simplest option and the most flexible on size. Light filtering and blackout rollers can be made from 11 3/4 inches wide with a chain, and the fabric rolls up into a slim cassette at the top of the window. Woven wood shades add natural texture that warms up a plain interior. On their own they are about 50% see through, so add a light filtering or blackout liner in any room where privacy matters.

Keep woven wood out of the bathroom. Natural fibres are not suited to high humidity, and prolonged moisture warps the weave. A polyester roller shade is the better choice there.

Frame depth and mounting options

Window frames vary from one manufactured home to the next, so measure the depth before you pick a mount. Woven wood needs at least 1 5/8 inches of depth inside the frame, and 2 5/8 inches if you want it to sit flush with the wall. If your frame is shallower than the shade needs, mount it on the wall or trim above the window instead. The brackets and fitting steps are the same either way.

For cellular shades, an inside mount is built about 1/4 inch narrower than the opening so it clears the frame. For an outside mount, add around 3 7/8 inches to both the width and the height so the shade overlaps the opening and blocks light at the edges. You can add more if you want a wider overlap.

Cordless cellular shades reach up to 94 inches wide and 94 inches high. For a wide living room window or a sliding door, a chain operated cellular shade goes much wider, up to 197 inches.

Measuring and installing it yourself

Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening and use the smallest figure. Measure the height on both sides and use the smaller one. Round down to the nearest 1/8 inch and give us the exact numbers. The factory makes the small deductions that let the shade fit.

Roller shades hang on brackets with four pre-drilled holes. Two screws on opposite sides hold a bracket on a sound surface, and the extra holes are there when the wall is weak or the shade is wide. Anchors for both drywall and masonry come in the box. The cassette hooks over the bracket latch and clicks in at the back. Check that it is locked at the top and the rear before you let go, because a bracket that only catches at the top can drop the first time the shade is raised.
