A roman shade is the softest way to dress a window, with fabric that stacks into neat folds instead of rolling away out of sight. It is also the shade people move least, because the cord sits behind a sofa or headboard. Motorized roman shades and blinds fix that. A remote, an app or your voice moves the shade to the same spot every time, with no cord at the window. Every shade on this page is made to the width and height you measure and shipped direct to you.
Which motorized roman shades and blinds to choose
Start with the fabric. Light filtering roman shades come in 32 colors, from crisp whites to linen looks in sand, clay and stone, and keep a room bright while softening glare. Blackout roman shades come in 30 colors for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms you want dark on command.
If you want texture over a smooth face, woven wood shades fold like a roman and motorize too. Waterfall, flat fold and hobbled styles are all available with a motor, in bamboo, jute, reed, grass, flax and ramie, with an optional light filtering or blackout liner.
Then pick the motor. The standard rechargeable battery motor comes with a remote. A plug-in motor runs on household current where an outlet is close by. For voice and app control, the Zigbee motor connects straight to five Alexa devices (Echo Plus 2nd Gen, Echo Studio, Echo Show 10 3rd Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen and Echo Show 4th Gen) with no hub. The Matter motor connects straight to Apple Home through a HomePod and also works with Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant. The standard battery and plug-in motors need a hub to reach a voice assistant.
What to know about motors, positions and charging
Each motor stores six stopping points: an upper limit, a lower limit and four favorite positions in between, so the shade can stop halfway for afternoon sun or sit just above a window seat. The upper and lower limits can each be fine-tuned once after setup, and changing them again means resetting the motor, so set them with the shade in its final spot.
Battery motors charge with a 5 volt, 1 amp charger and take about four hours to fill. The light shows red while charging and green when full. Give each motor at least a six hour charge every six months even if it has barely moved. A solar charger is available for windows you would rather not reach.
Motorized woven wood shades are made up to 96 inches wide and 118 inches high. The standard DC motor builds down to 12 3/4 inches wide, while the lithium ion and plug-in motors need at least 25 1/4 inches because the motor has to fit in the headrail. Woven wood needs at least 1 5/8 inches of frame depth for an inside mount and about 2 5/8 inches to sit flush. Choose a fabric roman, not woven wood, for a humid bathroom.
Measuring and installing it yourself
For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening and use the smallest, rounded down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Measure the height on both sides and use the smaller number. Send us those exact figures and the factory makes the deductions.
Fabric roman shades hang on a cassette bracket. Drill with a 0.2 inch (6 mm) bit, choose the anchor that matches your wall, and fix each bracket through two of its four holes on opposite sides, adding the other two on a wide or heavy shade. Hook the groove at the top of the valance onto the bracket latch, press it back until it clicks, and check that both the top and the rear are locked before you let go. To take it down later, press the metal washer at the back of the bracket.
Order a fabric sample first, then measure, pick your motor and let the shade do the lifting.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
