A sunroom gets more light than any other room in the house, and that is the reason to soften it rather than shut it out. A flat screen or roller can look technical against wicker, linen cushions and a row of plants. Sunroom roman shades and blinds bring the same light control in a softer form: fabric that stacks into folds when raised and hangs in a relaxed plane when lowered, in natural woven wood or a light filtering fabric. Every shade on this page is made to the width and height you measure and shipped direct to you.
Woven wood or fabric roman shades for a sunroom
Woven wood is the natural fit for most sunrooms. Bamboo, jute, reed, flax and ramie weaves add texture to a room that is mostly glass, and three fold styles set the mood. Flat fold hangs in one crisp plane when lowered and suits a cleaner, modern room. Hobbled holds soft cascading folds at every height for a relaxed cottage look. Waterfall runs the weave off the front of a hidden headrail for an unbroken face. A dry, sunny room is exactly where natural fibers belong, though a sunroom that doubles as a humid plant room with daily misting is better served by fabric.
Light filtering roman shades come in 32 colors, from warm neutrals such as Canvas Cream, Wheat Glow and Oyster Shell to the Canyon Linen range. They give an even glow with no open weave, which is useful on a sunroom that faces a neighbor or the street.
Liners, sizes and lifts for woven sunroom shades
The liner sets how much light and view a woven shade lets through. With no liner, a woven shade is roughly 50% see-through, which keeps the garden view and still takes the hard edge off midday sun. A light filtering liner closes it to about 70%, and a blackout liner makes it fully opaque for a sunroom used as a guest room. Both liners come in nine colors, and the valance is lined to match the shade.
Woven wood is built up to 96 inches wide on every lift system. Sunroom windows often run in long rows, and wider spans can take two or more shades on one continuous headrail up to 118 inches in total, though a shared valance still stops at 96 inches. Height depends on the lift: cordless reaches 106 inches, while clutch loop, wand and motorized shades reach 118 inches. Clutch loop builds the narrowest, from 11 3/4 inches, for the slim panels between larger glass. A motor runs from a remote, wall switch or app and works with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomePod, which helps when a row of sunroom windows is too long to walk along twice a day. Some looser weaves need edge binding, about 1/2 inch wide, which also frames the shade with a neat border.
Measuring and installing them yourself
For an inside mount on woven wood, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of each opening and use the smallest, rounded down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Measure the height on both sides and use the smaller figure. Check the depth too: woven wood needs at least 1 5/8 inches of frame depth to mount inside, and about 2 5/8 inches to sit flush on a clutch or motor build, or 2 1/8 inches for cordless. Give us the exact figures, because the factory takes the small width deduction.
Fabric roman shades hang from a cassette bracket. You need a 6 mm drill bit, and two anchor types come in the box, so choose the one that suits your wall. Hook the valance onto the bracket latch, press it back until it clicks, and check that both the top and the rear have locked before you let go.
In a sunroom, keep one weave or one fabric color across every window so the run of glass reads as a single wall. Order woven wood samples and hang them in the room at midday, when the light is strongest and the true color of each weave shows.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
