Wood blinds bring real wood to the window: horizontal slats with natural grain that tilt open for daylight and close for privacy. They suit rooms where the wood already does the talking, such as a study with a stained desk, a dining room with a wood table, or a living room with wood floors, because the blind reads as part of the room rather than an add-on. This page groups our made-to-measure wood blinds with the two products people most often weigh them against.

Choosing between wood, faux wood and woven wood

Wood blinds lead this page. You choose the size, color and configuration for each window on the product page, and every blind is made to your measurements. Wood blinds are also part of our cordless range.

Faux wood blinds give the same slatted look with a painted finish. If you are matching painted trim, or you want one blind across every room in the house, faux wood is the natural comparison.

Woven wood shades are for a wood-toned window without slats. Some of our woven wood weaves blend wood with bamboo, and the shade lifts in soft folds rather than stacking at the head. They work well where you want texture and warmth more than the crisp lines of a blind.

Some design guidance for real wood. Match the finish to the largest wood surface in the room, usually the floor or a big piece of furniture, rather than to small accents. A slightly lighter tone than the floor keeps the window from looking heavy. In a room with painted white trim, a mid-tone wood gives contrast without fighting the trim, while a very dark finish works best when the frame is dark too. Keep the same finish on every window you can see from one spot.

Sizing and specifications

Slat sizes, size limits and lift options for our wood blinds are set on the product page as you configure the blind, so check the options there for your window before ordering. If a window is very wide, very tall or very narrow, send us the measurements and we will confirm the build.

If you are considering woven wood instead, its limits are documented. The maximum width is 96 inches on every lift system. A wider opening can take more than one shade on one headrail, up to 118 inches in total, with a shared valance capped at 96 inches. Clutch loop starts at 11 3/4 inches wide, which makes it the option for very narrow windows, while cordless needs 19 3/4 inches. Cordless reaches 106 inches high and clutch, wand and motorized lifts reach 118 inches. A liner changes how much the weave lets through: unlined is about 50% see-through, a light filtering liner takes it to about 70%, and a blackout liner makes the shade fully blackout.

Measuring and installing them yourself

For an inside mount, measure the opening width at the top, middle and bottom and use the smallest figure, rounded down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Measure the height on both sides the same way, with your back to the wall. Check the frame depth too: woven wood needs at least 1 5/8 inches inside the frame, and 2 5/8 inches to sit flush.

Send the exact opening and let the factory make the deductions. Measure each window on its own, even in a matching row, because older frames are often a little out of square.

Real wood at the window is one of the simplest ways to make a room feel finished. Order samples to see the finish against your floor in daylight, then send your sizes and we will make each blind to measure and ship it direct to your door.

How do I measure for my shades?

Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.

Should I choose light filtering or blackout?

Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.

Can I add a motor?

Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
