Find your solution
Most roller shades hang a continuous bead chain down one side of the window. It works, but the loop swings at floor level, gets caught behind furniture, and is the part of a window covering that parents and pet owners worry about most. Cordless roller shades and blinds take the chain away entirely. The shade has no loose cords, which makes it child and pet safe, and the window looks cleaner with nothing hanging beside it. This page collects the Coverly roller styles you can order cordless, from soft light filtering fabric to full blackout and see-through solar screens.
Which cordless roller shades and blinds to choose
Light filtering roller shades let daylight through the fabric while blocking the view in. They are the easy default for living rooms, kitchens and kids' playrooms, anywhere you want privacy without losing the light.
Blackout roller shades use fully opaque fabric for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms. A cordless blackout shade in a nursery solves two problems at once: a dark room for naps and no cord near the crib.
Solar shades are woven from an open screen fabric that cuts glare and heat while you can still see out. They are a good fit for home offices, sunrooms and west-facing windows. You choose the openness: a tighter weave blocks more light, a more open one keeps more of the view.
Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands, so you can line the bands up for filtered light or offset them for privacy, all from one shade.
For a clean look across a room, keep every shade in the same cassette color and pick fabrics from the same color family, even if one window needs blackout and another light filtering. White or grey cassettes disappear against most trim; black suits dark window frames.
Sizes and limits for cordless roller shades
Cordless is built into our squared and round cassettes; it is not available on open roll or fascia styles. The size range depends on the cassette and the fabric.
On our larger squared cassette, a cordless shade starts at 23 5/8 inches wide. Light filtering fabric reaches 98 3/8 inches wide and 137 3/4 inches high. Blackout fabric and solar screens reach 94 1/2 inches wide and 118 inches high, because heavier fabrics are made on narrower rolls.
On our smaller squared and round cassettes, cordless runs from 19 3/4 inches to 96 inches wide, with a maximum height of 80 inches. That makes them the better match for narrower windows.
A few fabrics are milled on rolls narrower than the cassette maximum, and in that case the fabric width sets the limit, so a very wide opening may narrow your fabric choices. For openings wider than one shade, the smaller cassettes can carry two shades on one headrail, and with cordless each shade lifts on its own. If your window is narrower than 19 3/4 inches, a clutch chain shade can be made from 11 3/4 inches wide.
Measuring and installing it yourself
Decide first whether the shade sits inside the window frame or on the wall above it. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the opening and use the smallest figure, then measure the height on both sides. If a deep sill, a handle or a window crank is in the way, ask for reverse roll, which hangs the fabric off the front of the tube so it clears the obstruction.
Installation takes two brackets and a drill. Use a 6 mm (0.2 inch) bit and fix each bracket through at least two of its four pre-drilled holes on opposite sides, with the anchors that match your wall. Hook the valance groove onto the bracket latch, press back until it clicks, and confirm both the top and the rear are locked before letting go.
Every cordless roller shade here is made to the measurements you send and shipped direct to your door. Order a sample if you are deciding between two fabrics or two levels of light.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
