Find your solution
If your home already runs on Apple Home, a shade that needs its own app, its own hub and its own remote feels like a step backward. HomeKit shades and blinds fix that. Our Matter motor connects straight to the Apple Home ecosystem through a HomePod, with no extra bridge to buy, so your shades sit alongside your lights and thermostat and move from your phone or by voice. Every shade on this page can be ordered with that motor, made to the width and height you measure and shipped direct to you.
Which HomeKit shades and blinds to choose
The Matter motor is available on roller, roman, zebra, solar and woven wood shades, so the choice comes down to the room. Blackout roller and blackout roman shades darken a bedroom or nursery on schedule. Light filtering roller and roman shades soften daylight in a living room or kitchen. Zebra shades slide sheer and solid bands past each other, so the motor sets both the height and how much light gets through. Solar shades cut glare and heat on a sunny wall while you keep the view. Woven wood shades bring bamboo, jute and reed texture to a modern smart home.
Matter is not only for Apple. The same motor also works with Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Home Assistant, which helps in a home where one person uses an iPhone and another uses Android. If your household is all Alexa and you own an Echo Plus 2nd Gen, Echo Studio, Echo Show 10 3rd Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen or Echo Show 4th Gen, our Zigbee motor connects to those directly instead. Our standard battery and plug-in motors need a hub to reach any voice assistant.
Motor sizes, positions and charging
The motor sits inside the roller tube, so a motorized roller shade needs more width than a chain shade: at least 20 1/8 to 21 1/4 inches depending on the headrail, about 8 to 10 inches more than manual. Light filtering roller fabrics reach up to 98 3/8 inches wide on our squared cassette, depending on the fabric, while blackout and solar fabrics stop at 94 1/2 inches because they are milled on narrower rolls. Shades over 100 inches high move to a larger cassette and tube that reach 118 inches wide and 120 inches high. Motorized woven wood is made up to 96 inches wide and 118 inches high.
Each motor stores six stopping points: an upper limit, a lower limit and four favorite positions in between. The upper and lower limits can each be fine-tuned once after setup, so set them with the shade in its final spot. The motor charges with a 5 volt, 1 amp charger in about four hours, with a red light while charging and green when full. Give it at least a six hour charge every six months, and add a solar charger on windows you would rather not reach.
Pairing, measuring and installing it yourself
To add a shade to Apple Home, set up your HomePod as your home hub, then put the motor into pairing mode by pressing its button four short times and one long time until the green light flashes. In the Home app choose Add Accessory and scan the QR code that comes with the motor. The HomePod setup guide calls for a 5 GHz network.
For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and use the smallest, rounded down to the nearest 1/8 inch, then measure the height on both sides and use the smaller number. Roller, roman and zebra shades hang on a cassette bracket: drill with a 0.2 inch (6 mm) bit, use the anchor that suits your wall, fix each bracket through two holes on opposite sides, then hook the valance onto the latch and press until it clicks.
Order samples to settle the fabric, then measure, choose the Matter motor and let your home run the shades.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
