Find your solution
A modern room usually asks the window to do less, not more. Clean lines, a calm palette and nothing fussy at the glass. A roller shade fits that brief better than most coverings: one flat panel of fabric that rolls away into a slim cassette when you want the view, and drops as a single smooth plane when you do not. This page gathers our made-to-measure roller shades for modern and minimalist interiors, from soft light filtering fabric to blackout and solar screen, so you can choose the look first and the light level second.
Four roller styles for a modern room
Light filtering roller shades are the everyday choice for living rooms, kitchens and offices. They soften daylight without blocking it, so the room stays bright and even.
Blackout roller shades suit bedrooms and media rooms. They keep the same clean profile, with fabric that blocks the light rather than softening it.
Solar shades are the option for large glass that takes strong sun. The fabric comes in set openness levels, and you can order a solar sample in 1%, 3% or 5% openness to compare them against your own window before you choose.
Zebra shades add a layered, banded look for rooms that want a little texture. Zebra is built only in a cassette, so the top of the window always finishes cleanly.
A few design notes. Match the cassette to the frame or the wall. Cassettes come in white, beige, grey and black: a white cassette on white trim almost disappears, while a black cassette under black window frames gives the crisp, graphic line many modern rooms are built around. Keep one fabric and one color across a run of windows so the wall reads as a single plane. Solid, quiet colors suit minimalist rooms best; let the furniture and the view carry the pattern.
Sizes and operating options
On our standard squared cassette, about 3 1/2 inches square, light filtering roller shades reach 98 3/8 inches wide and 137 3/4 inches high. Blackout and solar fabrics are milled on narrower rolls, so they stop at 94 1/2 inches wide and 118 inches high. A few fabrics are narrower still, and when the fabric roll is narrower than the system, the fabric sets the maximum width. Any shade over 100 inches high moves to a larger tube and a larger cassette.
The operating system is part of the look. Cordless leaves no loose cords at the window and needs at least 23 5/8 inches of width. Motorized shades need at least 20 1/8 inches and can run from a remote, a wall switch or an app, and work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomePod. A rechargeable powerwand is another cord-free option, and a classic clutch loop comes with a chain tensioner as standard.
Measuring and installing them yourself
Measure the width in three places, top, middle and bottom, and the height on both sides, and write every number down. For an inside mount, use the smallest width and send us the exact opening rather than taking anything off yourself.
Each shade goes up on a cassette bracket. Screw the bracket through at least two of its four pre-drilled holes on opposite sides, using a 6 mm (0.2 inch) bit. Hook the groove at the top of the valance onto the bracket latch, then press the valance back until it clicks, and check that both the top and the rear are locked before you let go. Use the extra holes if the shade is wide or heavy, and choose the anchor that matches your wall, since both a drywall and a masonry type come in the box.
A modern window is mostly about restraint: the right fabric, a cassette that matches the frame, and a shade that disappears when it is up. Choose your fabric and operating system, send us your sizes, and we will make each roller shade to measure and ship it direct to your door.

How do I measure for my shades?
Choose an inside or outside mount first, then follow our shade measuring guide. Measure each window individually before entering your width and height on the product page.
Should I choose light filtering or blackout?
Light filtering fabric softens daylight. Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself, while light can still enter around the edges. Your mount and any side tracks affect the final result. Solar and unlined woven fabrics have different privacy characteristics, so check the product details.
Can I add a motor?
Open the product configurator to see the controls and motor options offered for that shade. Motor and smart-home compatibility vary by product and the motor you select.
